Here are the four top-of-mind wireless power topics of 2024
Last year, we analyzed readers’ interests in wireless power by looking at what they were reading and asking us about. The top five topics in 2022 were highly focused on planning and strategic ideas. Looking back at 2023, the wireless power audience appears to have grown more educated and targeted in their interests. Based on how often and how long people visited different articles, it’s clear that people have graduated from contemplation to wanting action. They want to fully understand these four areas:
- How Cota Real Wireless Power really works
- What wireless power over air can be used for, from extending battery life to eliminating the need for batteries
- The efficiency of sending power wirelessly over a distance
- How to accelerate the adoption of wireless power
Here’s a quick summary of each of our top wireless power topics of the last year.
1. How Cota Real Wireless Power really works
Cota Real Wireless Power is a radio-frequency based technology that can send power over air and at a distance, without the need for line of sight. It’s approved for use around the world in more than 60 countries, and is being integrated by Ossia partners and licensees into a variety of products today, from security cameras to asset trackers.
- How does wireless charging work? - This article compares induction and resonant charging to radio-frequency-based wireless power and was one of our biggest hits of 2023.
- How does Cota Real Wireless Power work? - This article has real staying power; it covers transmitters (now called Cota Hubs) and receivers, delivering power over air to moving devices, and the launch of the Cota Forever Battery, and includes two supporting videos.
- Not all wireless power is created equally: comparing retrodirectivity to beamforming - This article not only compares two very different technologies, but also includes a handy chart that shows which one does what.
2. What wireless power over air can be used for, from extending battery life to eliminating the need for batteries
Rechargeable batteries are expensive, and it’s no fun to wait for them to charge. Extending battery life for convenience and cost savings was on everyone’s mind last year, with one question top of mind:
How fast can Cota Real Wireless Power “charge” a device, and does speed really matter anymore when devices always have the power they need?
These articles helped answer this important question:
- Slow versus fast charging: how wireless power can extend the life of rechargeable batteries - This article explains how slow charging through an “always on” wireless power system can extend battery life.
- Now’s the time to eliminate a major pain point of radio controlled cars: limited battery life - In five steps, this article explains how wireless power can be installed in radio controlled cars.
- Will wireless power eliminate the wiring harness - In today’s modern cars, you’ll find hundreds of electronic devices throughout the vehicle that could be powered wirelessly, eliminating limited life batteries and weight.
- Smart locks aren’t the only devices with a power problem - When batteries fail, how good is the security of your building?
3. The efficiency of sending power wirelessly over a distance
Once organizations understand which electronic devices will benefit from wireless power over air, their thoughts turn toward efficiency. Is it really a better method than running wires and replacing batteries?
Is wireless power transmission better than wired? - This article explores the pros and cons of adding wireless power technology to the lineup of options.
The true efficiency of wireless power - How do you define efficiency? And what are the costs involved? You’ll find some great examples here.
4. How to accelerate the adoption of wireless power
Fast-tracking wireless power testing, acceptance, and adoption is top of mind for organizations that develop electronic devices. And it’s no wonder. R&D is time consuming and expensive. Here are the ways people are cutting costs and accelerating their time to market:
- The Ossia Fast Track Evaluation Program
- Cota Universal Adapter
- Cota Quick Receiver (QRx)
- Cota Power Table
All of these topics were popular at Ossia’s site in 2023.
